FITASC Layout

What is FITASC?

This International Sport discipline is named after the Federation that runs it. FITASC is an Acronym for a French term that means the International Federation for Sporting Shooting. Competitions consist of 100+ targets shot over at least 4 sections, International competitions are as large as 200 targets over 8 sections shot through a time period of two to four days. The layout uses all the more familiar speeds and angles of the uncomplicated English version.

How is FITASC Shot?

Each layout is approached by a group of 6. From an open firing point (one metre circle, 6 circles in total), they shoot a selection of targets fired from differing traps. Singles are fired first, followed by doubles, until all shooters have fired from all of the positions. There is no set layout but it is down to the referee's decision, as all targets must be fired in safe directions. A shooter must have the gun out of the shoulder from the moment the target is called for and up until the target becomes visible.

How is FITASC Scored?

The score is simply formed from how many targets are broken by a shooter.

What is the best gun to use for FITASC?

Basically you can use the same set-up as for English Sporting, if possible using a 30"-32" barrel. A Multichoke is recommended, as it is normal to change chokes on a section.

What is the best cartridge to use?

The best loads to use would be 28 - 32 gr. with plastic wads, and sizes vary from 7-9. A load of up to 36 gr. could actually be used but these have heavy recoil that most shooters find tiring over a long day shooting. Rules are not too formal in this event and it is best to take a large selection of shells for varying circumstances as you are also allowed two shots.

A shooting tip for FITASC

Use any waiting time you have to study where the targets are. This observation will be very helpful when it's your time to shoot. If you are number 1, you don't have this luxury.

A safety tip for FITASC

Referees are there to help you, waiting shooters should stand where told to as wondering around may result in an accident.

A beginners average rating

50% is reasonable, but don't worry about your score in your first competition. This discipline does take time to adjust to.

An experts average rating

90% will see you compete with the best around.
